The Levee Trail: Easy Strolls & Scenic Views
The Levee Trail is one of the most popular walking spots in Salina, and for good reason. It’s flat, well-maintained, and a go-to for locals looking to get in a peaceful walk or jog. Despite being a favorite, it never feels overly crowded, so you can enjoy your own space and a little solitude with nature. The trail stretches for miles, giving you plenty of room to explore, whether you’re aiming for a quick walk or a longer trek. Plus, the views along the way are serene, with calming sights of open skies and greenery — perfect for clearing your mind and shaking off any stress.
It’s also a popular trail for biking. Though you’ll have to carry your bike across railroad tracks in a couple of spots, and cross a few streets, this loop goes almost all the way around Salina and offers miles of easy riding.
Length: 12+ miles
Terrain: Created as part of a flood protection project, so it’s elevated in most places, offering great views and perspectives. The surface is ag-lime, finely crushed in most places for a smooth ride if you’re on a bike.
Access: You’ll find many access points on both the east and west sides of town, including the west end of State Street and the east end of Cloud Street.
Jerry Ivey Loop: A Family-Friendly Escape
Looking for a shorter, laid-back loop that’s great for the whole family? The Jerry Ivey Loop is your spot! Nestled within Jerry Ivey Park, this trail winds around the beautiful pond and green spaces, offering scenic views and a relaxing vibe. With playgrounds and picnic areas nearby, it’s an ideal choice if you want to mix some walking with fun time for the kiddos or a casual afternoon with friends. The well-paved path is easy to navigate, making it great for all ages and fitness levels. And who knows? You might even catch some local wildlife as you stroll through!
Length: 1.3 miles
Elevation gain: 19 feet
Terrain: A mix of paved and graveled paths, all very flat and suitable for all levels of fitness.

Oakdale Loop: Nature & Downtown Charm
Oakdale Park offers another favorite loop for those who love a mix of nature and a little bit of Salina’s downtown charm. This trail meanders through tree-lined paths, with the Smoky Hill River nearby, offering a cool, shaded walk in the warmer months. It’s a wonderful spot for dog-walkers, families, and anyone looking for a peaceful outdoor escape close to the city. After your walk, you can wander over to Oakdale’s amphitheater, or take a quick detour to explore some of the nearby downtown shops and cafes. It’s the perfect balance of nature and town life!
Length: .9 mile loop, with no Elevation Gain
Terrain: Mostly paved and flat.
Access: Oakdale Park is located just west of Tony’s Pizza Events Center at 730 Oakdale Drive. Oakdale Park is also the home of the annual Smoky Hill River Festival.

This area feels like stepping into a hidden nature reserve — you’ll find winding trails through wooded areas, scenic lake views, and a variety of wildlife from birds to deer. It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you’ve escaped the city without actually having to leave it. Lakewood’s natural beauty makes it a perfect spot for anyone who wants to slow down, take in the scenery, and enjoy some quiet time in the wild.
